RCI Points
There are now two distinctly different types of vacation timeshare ownership; points based ownership and weeks ownership.
The largest exchange company, RCI, has been promoting RCI Points for several years now. Many people like the points concept because the vacationer (points owner) no longer has to stay for a minimum of 7 nights in a particular resort. The RCI points can also be utilized toward such things as airline tickets and car rentals.
People who own RCI Points can also use their points in resorts that are not RCI points affiliated resorts, however people who do not own RCI Points cannot use time in RCI points resorts unless they buy RCI points or pay a substantial fee to convert their ownership to RCI Points.
Many people have opted not to buy RCI points because they are very satisfied with what they own. These people like the comfort of owning a deed (not all RCI Points programs come with a deed), and their vacation lifestyle is to stay for a full week when vacationing.
The subJect of RCI points is a broad subject and not easily explained in detail without talking to someone with expertise in the area.
